Ivol's
entry into the netball world, at the age of twenty-eight was due
mainly to her love for to the sport and to the influence of Ms.
Gertrude Howard, the Point Fortin Netball League.
She first started playing
for Ebony Netball Team in 1954 and in that same year she became a
founding member of the Imperial Netball Team. After being a member
of that team from 1954 to 1956 , she left due to differences of
opinion with her members. After a while she began playing with
Rockets Netball Team with whom she played from 1959 to 1973. With
the improvement in her standard of play, she was selected on the
Trinidad and Tobago National Team to participate in the 1973
Caribbean Tournament held in Grenada.
By 1976, Ivol began to
dedicate her interest to Netball administration and was selected to
represent Point Fortin on the National Executive of the Trinidad and
Tobago Netball Association. She served as Secretary of the Point
Fortin Netball League from 1979 to 1989. In 1978 she went on tour
with the national team to St. Vincent and St. Lucia.
Her list of performances
and accomplishments beyond 1981 are as follows:-
1982 The Trinidad and
Tobago Netball Association Incorporated presented her with aplaque
in appreciation of her faithful and devoted service to netball
1947-1982. In that same year, the Point Fortin Borough Council
awarded her a Silver Tray for her contribution to netball in the
Borough on the Nation's 20th Anniversary of Independence.
1984 she was awarded a
certificate of Appreciation for administration of the sport from
the San Fernando Lions Club.
1986 She was awarded a
Certificate for devoted and invaluable service rendered to the
Jeanette Smart Netball League.
1988 The Point Fortin
Sports Council, a Sub-committee of the Point Fortin Corporation,
presented her with a Scroll signed by Mayor Lawrence Achong for her
contribution in the field of Sport to the Point Fortin Netball
League and for continuous work to the Burgesses of Point Fortin.
1989
The Thesea Village Netball Court was re-named the Ivol
Roberts Netball Court in appreciation of her contribution; while the
San Fernando Netball League presented her with a Medal for being the
best goal keep.
At present Ivol is still
involved in Netball at the administrative level in the Point Fortin
League.
