A pioneer of the steel band movement

Mr. James Neverson

Mr. James Neverson also known as "Bumpy" of Church Street, Self-Help, Point Fortin. A pioneer of the steel band movement in Trinidad & Tobago had the Genesis of the Morning Stars Steel Orchestra in the year 1947-1953 at a Pan Shed known in those days as the Road-House situated at a place known as "On the Line" at Egypt Village Point Fortin at which he had the mainstream talent of being Pan Tuner, Arranger and all the ingredients to make him an excellent bandleader unique in his aspirations to the heralding of the steelpan the band had a name change in the last two years of its existence to the name Intruders.

Through Mr. Neverson's astute and disciplined leadership, he was able to embrace others into the movement such as Mr. Allan "Maestro" Gervais one of this country's leading pan tuners who is now deceased. Mr. Earl "Bostic" Rodney who is still flying the flag all over the world as a pan player and arranger along with many others who were quite instrumental in the placing of the National Instrument where it is today, out of twenty (20) such men eight (8) of them is still alive today including Mr. James Neverson who is now a retiree and still reverencing the struggles, police brutality and the demoralizing image of the panmen to which he was subjected, his efforts are unrecognizable but is soothing and comforting to him that he had made an honorable contribution to the establishment of the steel band movement. We the Point Fortin Burgesses wish to continued long life and prosperity in his future endeavours.
